1125 Savannah Highway Charleston, SC 29407. This isn’t the address of your dream home, but it is the address of one of the most exciting chains to open in West Ashley. When I heard that Whole Foods was opening right down the street from where I live in Avondale, I started counting down the days until the grand opening. There was so much buzz going around about its size, the salad bar versatility, and the unbelievably fresh produce it would offer.
Whole Foods may be known for their unique products and aesthetic atmosphere, but most people don’t know that Whole Foods does extensive research before deciding on a store location. A lot of other companies will start to pop up in the same area because they know Whole Foods does their homework. Avondale already appears to be a popular and sought after area, but having a Whole Foods nearby definitely adds more appeal.
Avondale is filled with funky joints that exude a laid back and relaxing vibe. One of the best things about Avondale is the variety of places to go. Some of my favorite spots are Mellow Mushroom, Avondale Wine and Cheese, Classic Coffee, and Gene’s Haufbrau. I love that you can go from having the best slice of pizza at Mellow, to taking an oyster shot at Pearlz, and then dancing to throwback jams at Voodoo that give you all the feels. Oh, and did I mention that Kaminsky’s just opened? Be prepared to have the best dessert of your life. If you don’t feel like eating out and cooking at home cooked meal is calling your name, visit Avondale’s stellar farmers market in Ackerman Park. It’s every Wednesday afternoon from April to October. There’s music playing and local vendors selling high quality products that are made with love. I love the pickles, fresh bread, and local tomatoes. But don’t take my word for it. Come experience Avondale for yourself. You won’t regret it.
